Not so long ago, I bought some software from spotmau.com, their spotmau 2010 utility.
I began tweaking Vista and it was removing loads of rubbish that was, allegedly, not being removed by another piece of utility from iobit.com called Advanced System Care. It even found a couple of hundred entries in the registry that had never been cleaned up. Great - so I cleaned up the pc and then found my way into something in the software called service management. It told me that I can do, this, that, boil an egg, and make the tea, in fact everything!!! Woooo! Balls!! It didn't. I spent 4+ hours getting some settings back by eventually finding a well hidden return to default switch. It had removed all my net settings and returned my Vista Home Premium desktop to Win 98!!!
I fixed it, more by luck than judgement, and then contacted them to complain that they should have put a warning notice on the software OR remove the section in question. Can we send a tech down the line to have a look? Yes, but I HAVE fixed it. Tech arrives:
Tweak, look, tweak, look, nothing, trweak look tweak.
Then I found I had no autoplay on my dvd!!! I use that a lot in my game play and other major CD interactions. Now the fun began. A technician came back down the line and spent 3 hours searching my pc and still he could not fix it. That was 3 weeks or so ago.
After quite a few posts in a UK computer help forum, a smart lad in there found this site and, in particular, a thread on the fixing of autoplay using VB script. Well, I thought, I have tried everything else so why not? So I downloaded Paul's VB script and lo and behold I had my autoplay back!!!
Delighted? You better believe it - and I sent a small donation to Paul as a thanks. I would have liked to send a lot more, but I am short at the moment. Thanks Paul. I am now fighting to get a refund off the buggers!
